Definitely a unique plant. Spires of white blossoms appear in summer and mature into star shaped pods. Drought and heat tolerant once well established.

Dictamnus stems produce a citrusy aromatic oil. On still days, a flame held at the base of the flower stem will ignite the oil from the seed pods resulting in a dramatic contained flow of flame up the stem. The flame does not harm the flowers or seed pods.
